Gordon Hayward to the Celtics

This move is like putting a suit and tie on a piece of crap. Sure it looks nicer than before, but it's still a piece of crap. The crap of course being the Boston Celtics and the suit and tie being Gordon Hayward.

On July 4th, Gordon Hayward left the Utah Jazz and signed a 4 year, $128 million contract with the Boston Celtics. He averaged 21.9 PPG, 3.5 APG, and 5.4 RPG last year, so he's a legitimate star, but not nearly enough to overcome LeBron. He could win them a few more games in the regular season and possibly take the Cavs to 6 games, but he will not bring them a title. He's a great second option for Isaiah Thomas no doubt, but it will take another all star for them to be a serious contender to the Cavs. But now that they have Hayward, they have to clear up cap space so they can pay him, so guess what? They're talking about trading Avery Bradley, Jae Crowder, and Marcus Smart, vital pieces of their team. Marcus Smart won't be a huge loss (a lot less flopping), but Avery and Jae will be huge losses for the Celtics. Avery Bradley was First Team All-Defense in 2015, and he got cheated out of the First Team this year, and Jae Crowder was their best wing defender. That leaves Gordon Hayward to guard LeBron James, so we should all lift a prayer for Gordon and the Celtics fans. And if I hear anyone talk about the Celtics having a "Big Three", I'll remind them that Big Threes win championships; Isaiah Thomas, Gordon Hayward, and Al Horford won't even win the weak Eastern Conference, and the only reason they had the best record in the east last year was because LeBron rested and when he rested, the Cavs almost always lost. Yes, Gordon is a great pickup, but not nearly enough to take them to the Finals.

In my opinion, the best fit for him was the Miami Heat. It's a better opportunity basketball wise for Gordon, and it's an even better lifestyle for Gordon. The night scene in Miami, the beaches, and the weather are all great, and I can't think of absolutely anything relatively fun to do in Utah. Gordon did make a visit to Miami and Pat Riley met with him. My thoughts were that if he can convince LeBron James to come, he can convince Gordon in his sleep. They wouldn't have as much success as Gordon will have on the Celtics right away, but the Heat could've built around him and made their already good team even better. They have a dominant center in Hassan Whiteside and they signed Dion Waiters to a 4 year deal, so they would have already had a solid core. And Goran Dragic's game would be elevated more, as he would have had a superstar target to dish to. Miami made a lot of sense for Hayward to sign with, but I hope that Gordon does good things for Boston, like maybe hold LeBron to only 20 points in the Eastern Conference.
